In Dojo Toolkit, how do I show a dialog when a form is to be submitted?

The original question is posted here.

Problem:

On the click of the submit button of a form, I do not want to actually submit the form but show a dialog box instead -- may be to first confirm and then submit the form programmatically. How do I do that?

Solution:

You can accomplish this task in two steps:

  1. Ensure that the form does not get submitted. To that effect, "return false" during "onsubmit" of the form or execute "event.preventDefault()" while handling the "onsubmit" event of the form.
  2. Show up the dialog - popupDialog.show()


The code:

1a) <form onsubmit="return showMyDialog()"> ... </form>

The method showMyDialog will show the dialog, and should return false if you do not want the form to be submitted.

1b) dojo.connect(theForm, 'onsubmit', function(evt) {
evt.preventDefault();
});
